The Living Orchard Hub
The Living Orchard Hub is the heart of Grown in Harmony CIC — a developing community orchard and kitchen garden in Ashford designed to bring people together through growing, learning and shared outdoor experiences.
Created as a welcoming and inclusive outdoor space, the Hub will provide opportunities for people of all ages to connect with nature, improve wellbeing, learn practical growing skills and build stronger community connections.
Rooted in the values of sustainability, seasonal growing and community resilience, the Living Orchard Hub is being developed as a long-term community asset where people can gather, grow, learn and thrive together.
A Space Designed for Community
The Living Orchard Hub will bring together nature, food growing and community connection through a range of outdoor spaces and activities designed to support wellbeing, learning and inclusion.
The Hub will gradually develop to include:
- A community orchard
- Kitchen garden growing spaces
- Bee-friendly planting areas
- Outdoor learning spaces
- Nature trails and sensory areas
- Wildlife-friendly habitats
- Seasonal growing areas
- Community gathering and wellbeing spaces
- Heritage fruit tree planting
- Spaces for workshops, storytelling and outdoor activities
Designed to evolve over time, the Hub will become a shared space where children, families, volunteers and the wider community can enjoy meaningful experiences connected to nature and growing.
A Place for All Ages to Grow Together
The Living Orchard Hub will support a wide range of community programmes and activities, including:
- The Carrot Club — Nature-inspired toddler sessions for little hands, muddy boots and outdoor adventures.
- The Parsnip Club — A welcoming volunteer community helping to grow, care for and shape the Living Orchard Hub together.
- Rooted in Learning — Nature-inspired outdoor learning sessions for home-educated children and their grown-ups.
- Schools & Community Projects — Fruit tree planting, community orchards and outdoor learning opportunities for schools and community groups.
As the Living Orchard Hub grows, we hope it will become a place where friendships are formed, knowledge is
shared and people feel connected to both nature and their community.
Why The Living Orchard Hub Matters
We believe access to nature, outdoor learning and community growing spaces can have a lasting positive impact on both people and communities.
The Living Orchard Hub aims to:
- Reduce isolation and improve wellbeing
- Encourage outdoor learning and creativity
- Support healthier lifestyles and food awareness
- Improve access to green spaces
- Protect and celebrate heritage fruit varieties
- Increase biodiversity and pollinator-friendly planting
- Create opportunities for volunteering and community connection
- Develop long-term community resilience through growing and shared experiences
By reconnecting people with nature, food and seasonal growing, we hope to create a space that supports both wellbeing and environmental sustainability for future generations.
Looking Ahead
As part of our long-term vision for the Living Orchard Hub, we hope to create opportunities to celebrate and preserve the heritage of traditional fruit growing, local orchard culture and rare fruit varieties.
Future plans may include heritage learning opportunities, community storytelling, traditional orchard skills and the gradual development of a living orchard heritage space as the project grows.
Help Us Grow
The Living Orchard Hub is very much a growing community project, and we welcome support from volunteers, sponsors, schools, community groups and local partners who would like to be part of the journey.
Whether you would like to volunteer, support tree planting, partner with us or simply learn more about the project, we would love to hear from you.
